Digital catalogue of type specimens of fireflies from countries in SE Asia deposited at Naturalis Biodiversity Center, the Netherlands

Timeline: 2019 to 2024 (Published)

We’ve finally published type specimens of flashing fireflies in the Naturalis Biodiversity Center, Leiden (RMNH) collection. This study was part of the Vereniging Nederland-Maleisië Fellowship awarded to Wan in 2019.

We’ve had the good fortune to address seven name-bearing type specimens that fulfil most conditions: they are identified as types, are from the original locality specified in the description, and conform to the original description. Naturalis Biodiversity Center in the Netherlands was generous in its practices and not only loaned but permitted dissection.

Digital catalogue of type specimens from Singapore and other countries in SE Asia

Timeline: 2019 to 2022 (pending publications)

Specimen data and information on animal species in Singapore and other countries in SE Asia remain scattered around the world. This project aimed to assemble all known species of selected animal groups in SE Asia, complete with a bibliography of original species descriptions, specimen images, and the museum/institution that might hold the specimen. Wan was involved in this project for Singapore from 2019–2022 before she moved back to Malaysia. One of the outputs she hoped to deliver was a catalogue of type specimen of butterflies and leaf beetles from Singapore deposited at NHM London.
